Check Liquids

It's worth checking the vehicle's fluid levels at least once a month. Most of the time, you don't have to do anything, but that doesn't mean you should stop checking it from time to time. It's by far the most important preventive measure you can do. You should evaluate the level of brake fluid, engine oil, power steering fluid, and transmission once a month. Also, you should check the engine coolant every six months; while you have the hood lifted, you can ensure the fluid of the windshield washer is at the proper level. If the status of any of these liquids is underfilled, you can easily add the necessary amount, and it also lets you know if it's time to change the fluid or if there is a problem, like a leak, for instance.

Inspect the Tire Pressure

Keeping tires' pressure properly is also convenient because it extends their life usage and ensures optimal vehicle performance. Too much air will lead to excessive firmness and uncomfortable rolling, making the center of the tires wear out faster. If the tires are under the proper level, they will wear out prematurely at the edges, increasing resistance while rolling and triggering excessive fuel consumption. The recommended tire pressure is stated in the vehicle's manual, and it's also displayed on a label on the driver's door frame. It would be best if you used that pressure, not the maximum recommended pressure in the tire itself. If you don't have an air pressure gauge, at gas stations, the air hose usually has a pressure gauge. Some modern cars indicate the pressure of each tire on the board. If you need to blow air into your tires, many gas stations have air hoses you can use. But be careful while doing so; if you blow too much air into the tire, use the gauge to push it out a little by pressing on the valve. You should take the air out slowly and measure with each step until you reach the correct pressure.

Change the Wiper Blade Rubber

One of the easiest things you can do to your car is to replace the rubber on your windshield wipers. The rubber dries over time, so you must replace it once or twice a year, depending on the weather. The change varies depending on the brand of the vehicle, but it's a simple mechanism most of the time. Also, make sure the rubber is the correct size for your vehicle, as some tend to have two different sizes and perhaps have a rear wiper as well. You must be careful when removing the old rubber and try not to drop the metal arm on the glass; you can break it, and fixing that problem can be expensive.

Change the Air Filter

When you take your vehicle for automotive service, the mechanic will likely tell you that you need to change the air filter. Usually, the mechanic is right; the air filter prevents the engine from sucking up foreign matter. It's essential to change it every 15,000 miles or about once a year to avoid engine damage and maintain performance. Lastly, an old or dirty air filter affects vehicle performance by blocking the amount and purity of the air needed to function correctly. But that doesn't mean you have to pay someone to change it for you; you can buy it and change it yourself. It only takes a couple of minutes and will probably cost you less than 20 dollars. To change the air filter, locate the filter box in the engine compartment. Open the box and replace the filter with a new one.
